SJ started playing
the organ at age 13 and soon after that started his first band, while in
high school in Vanderbijlpark. During his 2 year national army service
he performed in several dance bands. By that time he had also mastered
the keyboards and drums. After completing his national service, SJ joined
Iscor, Vanderbijlpark, where he played in the Iscor Apprentices Danceband,
Rendevouz. There he mastered the guitar and base guitar as well. By that
time, SJ was already an experienced lead vocalist with a wide repertoire
of both Afrikaans and English songs. Since 1990 he has performed as a one
mand band, accompanying himself with guitar, keyboards and harmonica. His
self produced, debut CD, ('n Duisend woorde) was released in 2008.
